This winter transfer market is always a period of intense rumour and potential major transfers. A number of notable players find themselves linked with transfers out of their present clubs. We examine some of the key figures who could be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears a major move is imminent. The 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a £65 million release clause applicable for a short window at the start of the month. Recent developments point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a previous move to Liverpool falling through. As his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure remains unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales forward has had first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Despite finishing as the side's top scorer last season, he has started just a handful of league matches. It is understood the North London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the right price, believed to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

R. Neves

This Portugal playmaker could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still just twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a January exit looks highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading hopes of making the England squad. But, securing a deal poses major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all mentioned as admirers.

The striker was instrumental as his Saudi club to victory in the domestic cup showpiece.

Conor Gallagher

The energetic midfielder drew widespread interest in the off-season but stayed at Atlético Madrid. Having limited starting appearances in Spain this season, he may be eager to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United have been heavily linked, and a return to Selhurst Park, where he shone on loan, remains a option, although financial constraints might prove a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Despite excelling and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented midfielder has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to FIFA regulations regarding representing two clubs in a season, a return to Liverpool prior to next season seems to be the sole available solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward is in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his existing contract running down, a host of English sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are eager to tie down the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a race to keep one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ side. This 19-year-old is widely expected to make a major move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
