Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.
Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an better service.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a third set.
Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
